EP2: People and Places
This is the first of a series of EPs showcasing both my version and a SUNO AI cover of my songs. There are 5 in this list. It won’t hurt my feelings if you like the SUNO version better, because I’d agree with you. LOL However, I take full credit for the words and music, though SUNO did take liberties with the melodies, as would anyone who does a cover song.
Julianna was written in 2017, then revised in 2020 based on song reviews. The idea is vaguely based on lived experience (who and where shall remain secret) back in my Air Force days. But, the idea of writing a song like one that Jim Croce would write was in the back of my mind.
Cheshire Moon was written in 2016 on a trip to Phoenix. I was siting on my sister-in-law’s patio one evening when I noticed that the moon was just a sliver and would drift in and out of sight as the wind blew though the branches of the tree there. I had that thought: like the Cheshire Cat. And the song was born that night.
Angela is one of those part real, part imagination songs of mine. She was a real person I met on leave between USAF duty in FL and on my way to Vietnam. The letter mentioned was not actually written by her, though she wrote to me often while I was in Vietnam. The song was written in 2017 as another one of those Jim Croce efforts and revised in 2021.
Rusty Rails (which had a preview in the front page) was written in 2018 as a result of many trips to Lake Superior’s North Shore. So many of those towns have old rail lines that used to carry ore and freight, but now sit unused and rusting. True, many get taken up and the rail beds converted to walking or biking trails. But, some don’t, in hopes, I suppose, that they’d get used again someday.
Je Suis l’Amour was written in 2012, sometime before a trip to France in September of that year. It was a group trip with friends, six of us, lead by one of the couples who specialized in these trips. I was all excited and that excitement manifested itself in a song: imagining a lonely man in Paris who has a chance encounter with Love.
