SecondLife (r)

You can also find me in the virtual world of Second Life. My name there is Ray Weyland.

I originally signed up for Second Life in October of 2006. Most people are there to either build or meet people. I was there to perform, though it took until 2008 for me to figure out the right way to do it.

At first, I just set up a “radio station” on a parcel of land that continuously played a one hour selection of my songs. That was all fine, except that no one knew about it. So, no one came by to listen.

So, sometime in 2008 I met my first “Host.” She had a venue where she featured Live Music. I can’t remember now how it started. But, most likely, I heard about her venue from notices posted to music related groups (of which I joined a few of). After visiting a few time and listening to other performers, I asked about doing a show. She interviewed me, liked my music, and helped me get started performing there. After that, I also performed at half-a-dozen other venues as well as a few of my own, with a good friend acting as Host while I performed.

In 2018 my performing career ended after a Windows 10 upgrade to my computer. It would not let me stream my performances for more than 10 minutes without killing the stream. Very frustrating. I never solved it and haven’t done a show since. But, I do love building. So there’s that.

I did make one music video based on a song written with Second Life in mind (there are a few of them): “Dance with Me M’lady.” It’s on YouTube. The sound is terrible, unfortunately. A link is below:

So, if you are in Second Life, be sure to look me up or send me a greeting.
