Here are just a few of my songs. There are two categories: ones I produced and ones I sent to SUNO (an online AI music generation site) to produce. All of them were written, music and lyrics, by myself. The difference is in how they are developed, musically: by hand in my small recording studio or online by SUNO.
As an example, I’ve posted three shortened versions of my song “Rusty Rails” below. The first is a rather poor production by me in my studio. The second is a first pass through SUNO with no prompts to see what it would do with my version. The third is a second pass through SUNO where I applied a few more modifiers to manage the results a bit closer to what I would want.
I have to admit that SUNO blows my version away. However, being AI generated, the SUNO versions cannot be distributed by CDBaby to most streaming platforms. Hence, I can’t use them for streaming income, or even just exposure. That’s why I put them here in my site. They are good, regardless, and I’d like people to be able to hear them.
I will admit to one thing: SUNO makes creating professional sounding music easy and cheap. I could have similar results if I used services that provide real professionals for hire to work on my songs. That would be great. But, it would also be pricey and take a bit of time to manage schedules and retakes. Sadly, I have very little of either to devote to producing my music.
Now, one thing about SUNO I do not like is that it can be used to create songs, lyrics and music, from just a few prompts. I do not consider this a creative effort. And, I will not use SUNO in that capacity. I have enough material to spend the rest of my days on Earth documenting my music journey. I don’t need some AI system to do the creating for me, just polish them a bit.
